MIREILLE SAMETZ


Is it with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mireille Sametz.Mireille was born June 7, 1936, in Yavoriv, Ukraine at the beginning of Stalin’s famine, and the family quickly immigrated to Metz, France. Only to be invaded by Germany a year later. Mireille worked in the French business sector, met Walter and were married in France where they married, and lived for seven years being active in the Ukrainian community before moving to Winnipeg.Mom was a pillar of the Ukrainian community, having been a choir member for 40 years, and being a dedicated member of the St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral for many years. Faith in God and passion for Ukrainian culture and love of family gave her strength and joy. Mireille was predeceased by her husband Walter on September 16, 2022, and she is survived by her son Andrew, and her sister Jeannine Schotyk.


Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 820 Burrows Ave. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary the Protectress.

The St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral was established almost 100 years ago and until now is serving the Ukrainian Canadian community across the country.
